The Beige Peacock of Sadness

Long after the blue birds have left,
Flying West for Autumn, due to Union regulations
The skies have marooned, bleeding on the horizon
And the flowers curl into wretched bulbs
The Beige Peacock of Sadness comes home to roost

Creeping about like a burglar
The Beige Peacock of Sadness will
With great alacrity, poop
In your cereal box
And then play with the free toy within

Resting before one’s mantle,
Contemplating Pallas and Ravens
The Beige Peacock of Sadness may be glimpsed
From the corner of one’s eye peering
Peering through the window

Stalking with unrelenting prowess
Hiding behind bookcases or beneath stairwells
The Beige Peacock of Sadness is always watching
Especially when you rest.
And whisper in your ear from the heart of darkness

Soft coos of malicious poison
The Beige Peacock of Sadness will remind you of
Every failure, every defeat and indignity
And then in the dead of night,
It will angrily peck your crotch

If you find yourself awake at night
After the blue birds have long flown West
And you hear a rustling behind you, flee!
Once you witness its proud strut and bland colours
The Beige Peacock of Sadness will never let you go.
