SAS rushed in to guard our streets as Al Qaeda warns youre next

This morning this report from the Express on Sunday is doing its rounds on the internet.

The elite Special Forces have joined counter-terror police and 1,900 Army personnel in the biggest security operation since the 2012 London Olympics.

The news comes as Al Qaeda warned that France was only its third preferred target after Britain and the US.

How accurate this report is, I do not know as the Express is not always the most reliable source and they have a habit of publishing everything they
can about UK Special Forces. However this report is very interesting and fits in with reports form the head of MI5 regarding the increasing threat
that the UK is facing from trained Jihadists returning from Syria and Iraq, our police are not trained to fight trained paramilitaries our Special
Forces are. In fact the
Head of
MI5
just this week warned that there was a increasing thread to the UK and that a “mass-casualty attack” could take place in the future.

Indeed all week we have seen reports in the press in the UK regarding this increase in the threat, however the UK threat level remains at
Sever”, the second highest. A move up to the highest threat level,
Critical, would suggest that the intelligence services had intelligence that a attack was imminent, it will be interesting to see if the threat level
changes in the next few days with this news in mind.

The Article goes on to report that about 30 SAS troopers are being deployed to assist police and to promote coordination between the police and
Special Forces however in addition to this it also reports that 120 members of the SBS have also been deployed to protect our ports. They have said
that this is the biggest security operation since the 2012 Olympics, yet there is no direct threat above the usual Al-Qa’ia and extremist
rhetoric.

It is also interesting to note that today the
Sun (another tabloid rag) is running with a
similar story on its front page today saying that the SAS are actually creating a new domestic counter-terrorism force led by them but working in
conjunction with the police and other law enforcement agencies.

As such it could be that the Express is mealy just reporting the same story but with some added scaremongering. Regardless if either of these reports
are to be believed they do suggest the SAS are becoming ever more involved in policing terrorism. Something I do not feel entirely comfortable with.
